Its compact obround channel-flow structure provides a large effective filtration area while occupying less space than many conventional pleated filters. As intake air passes through the media, the filter captures dust, Sand, Ruß, pollen, and other airborne contaminants before they reach the turbocharger and engine.

A fleet operator used Ford F-350 Super Duty trucks with 6.0L Power Stroke diesel engines for construction-site service work. Because the trucks frequently operated on dusty roads, their air filters accumulated large amounts of dirt and fine particles.
